See Yourself

from Smaller Print EP by Thom Carter

lyrics

See yourself in a room,
Laying on the floor by a long window,
Anyway, it’s no good,
Fretting about what I think of you,

So you stay,
Half the time away,
Half in space that is your own,
But you don’t want to be alone.

See yourself burn away,
Into smoke and ashes,
It’s your fate – the photograph remains,
Escapes the flame that you had begun,
It wasn’t the best one,
But your hair was red as the sun.

I am a protest against the world,
When you’ve heard enough,
Strange how it doesn’t seem to matter that much,
Then you turn to it at once,

To see yourself the next day,
The rain has gone but the storm remains,
Don’t let me down – you could it you tried,
Walk me home, your arm in mine,

And so you stay,
Half the time away,
Half in space that is your own,
But you don’t want to be alone.
